Savilahti construction progresses as planned – see the latest updates
The new student apartments in Savilahti will be completed in phases
Kuopas’ construction project in Savilahti is progressing as planned. The two new student housing buildings are being built by the Savilahti waterfront, right next to the University of Eastern Finland, Savonia University of Applied Sciences, and Savo Vocational College. A total of 265 new student apartments will be completed in Savilahti according to the following estimated schedule:
- The first, 12-story tower building: by the start of schools in 2025
- The second, lower L-shaped building: turn of the year 2025-2026
The current timetables for the completion of the buildings are only estimates. More precise dates will be announced in late spring.
Diverse housing options and communal spaces for students
The upcoming apartments focus on practical layouts and modern amenities. The design considers students’ need for both privacy and community. Each apartment has its own kitchen and bathroom, while tenants also have access to shared spaces such as a laundry room, sauna, and study areas. The planning has taken student life and social interaction into account, which is reflected in the cozy communal areas and spacious balconies. In the 12-story tower building, each floor features a shared balcony, and the upper floors offer stunning lake views over Savilahti.
Various green courtyard areas are planned between the buildings. Cyclists have been given special consideration with extensive bike storage and maintenance facilities. Additionally, commercial spaces on the ground floor will be allocated to businesses catering to student needs.
Focus on energy efficiency
The buildings are energy-efficient A-class passive houses utilizing solar energy.
This supports our goal of developing more sustainable and eco-friendly student housing in Kuopio.
The Savilahti campus area is evolving – an even better location for students
The new buildings in Savilahti are located in a unique spot at the heart of the university campus, close to essential student services and educational institutions. The Savilahti area is developing rapidly, offering students even better housing opportunities right next to their schools. The area already has a variety of services, including gyms, cafés, and excellent transport connections to the city center.
As the area continues to grow, Savilahti will provide even more options for a smooth student life. The new student apartments will bring more vibrancy to the campus and make Savilahti an even more student-friendly environment.
Applications and rent
The schedule for tenant selection will be announced in more detail in late spring 2025. The application process will follow Kuopas’ general selection criteria. Estimated rents will range between €370–570, averaging around €15/m². This means that rental prices will be similar to our housing locations in Puijonlaakso. Apartment sizes will range from 23.5 to 39.5 m².
All apartments will be equally priced, and the selection process will be based on income, assets, and housing need, following ARA regulations.
