Kuopas turns 50 in 2025! 🎉 For half a century, we have provided homes for thousands of students in Kuopio. Now, we want to celebrate this milestone in a communal and relaxed way – together with our tenants.
Throughout the anniversary year, we will highlight everyday student living and the sense of community. We will show our appreciation to our tenants through various social media campaigns, competitions, and small surprises. 50 Years of Student Housing in Kuopio
When Kuopas was founded in 1975, the goal was to provide affordable and comfortable housing for students in Kuopio. Over the years, we have expanded and evolved to meet the changing needs of students. Today, we provide housing for over 3000 students, and our journey continues. While student life has changed over the past five decades, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to making student housing smooth, affordable, and secure.
Over the years, Kuopas has grown and developed alongside student needs. In the early years, most of the housing options were shared apartments and family apartments. However, in recent years, the demand for studio apartments has increased significantly. Students value their own space and independent living more than ever, which is why we have increased the number of studio apartments to meet this need. At the same time, we have enhanced housing services – adding shared spaces, laundry facilities, and student-friendly solutions to better support modern student life.
The city of Kuopio has also changed significantly over the decades, and Kuopas has grown along with it. The number of students has increased, and the proportion of international students has risen considerably. Kuopas has kept pace with this development by providing a home for all kinds of students, whether they are from Kuopio or have moved to Finland from abroad.

During the anniversary year, we will organize social media competitions where you can share your perspective on student living.
